After Cairns, I took a flight down to the Gold Coast where I spent a day and a half preparing for my upcoming trip to Singapore and SE Asia. I choose Scoot Airlines, a Singapore based airline for my flight. Scoot is a no frills long haul carrier. They didn’t even have adjustable air vents over each seat. Still I only paid approximately $170 USD for the 8 hour fight.

For my last day in Cairns, I decided to go on a tour of the rainforest outside Cairns. But I didn’t choose just any tour, I chose ‘Uncle Brian’s.’ They focus exclusively on backpackers, and to stand out from the crowd, they offer a unique twist – the driver is crazy and the whole tour is interactive. While they take you to the same places all the other tours go, Uncle Brian tries and succeeds at making the entire tour and especially the long bus ride in between…

This is perhaps the most overused phrase in Australia. It has proliferated itself everywhere from Twitter captions, Instagram, and Facebook posts. Still I can’t help myself from using it. I’m addicted – what can I say.
